New White Papers Deliver FireWire Performance Comparisons, Review the Benefits of the UWB Over Coax Standard

A pair of new white papers developed by the 1394 Trade Association provide updated performance comparisons involving FireWire and other interface standards, and a look at the benefits of the new UWB Over Coax standard for home networking.

The comparative white paper details optimal uses for many popular interface standards including HDMI, Ethernet and USB. Completed with the assistance of LSI, which provided its new FireStorm fw643 development board, the paper also offers complete performance comparisons between FireWire, eSATA, and USB. The benefits of FireWire are explored for a wide range of applications among such diverse sectors as computers, peripherals, consumer electronics, and industrial automation. 

“Home Entertainment Networks and Flying Cars” reviews the benefits of networking IEEE 1394 clusters via UWB over coaxial cable. This second white paper includes a thorough discussion of the critical requirements for a home network, including Quality of Service (QoS), security, and cost-efficiency, among other considerations.  It also provides a comprehensive review of the new standard passed by the 1394 Trade Association in August of 2008.
