1394 TRADE ASSOCIATION PRESS RELEASE

1394 Trade Association Features Latest FireWire Product Demonstrations at CEDIA 2006

1394 Moving over Coax, Networking Demos, New Products, Latest Product Book

Denver, Sep. 13, 2006 – The 1394 Trade Association will feature the latest demonstrations of 1394-equipped consumer, networking and computer technologies at the annual CEDIA Expo 2006 in Denver Sept. 14-17.

Featured in booth 733 will be a 1394-over-coaxial cable demonstration provided by Samsung Electronics, using a video source, repeater, and a display designed to illustrate how the 1394 standard moves video over coax using ultrawideband technology. 1394-over-coax via UWB provides a whole-home distribution capability that runs over existing coax and can co-exist with legacy cable and satellite programming. The demonstration was developed in conjunction with the High-Definition Audio-Video Network Alliance (www.hanalliance.org).

The Trade Association will also demonstrate compelling video applications enabled by 1394 on camcorders and PCs and notebooks. This will include video editing of movies, stop-motion animation, time lapse photography, and others. The superior speed of 1394b, twice as fast as USB 2.0 or internal storage, will also be demonstrated in a variety of currently available 1394b external hard drives.

The Plastic Optical Fiber Trade Organization (POFTO) and the 1394 Trade Association will cooperate on a booth-to-booth video transfer, in which images generated in the POFTO booth will be delivered over plastic optical fiber to a display in the Trade Association booth.

Also to be shown: the new FireNEX-CAT5, a 1394b-equipped repeater for long distance connections, and new plastic optical connector devices developed by ElectronicLinks, Inc. And USTec will showcase its tecStream technology, designed for moving video across a home network over CAT-5 using 1394. TecStream allows users to handle all the devices on a network – from set-top boxes and media PCs to DVD players and DVRs – with a single remote.

The 1394 TA also will deliver copies of its latest, most complete new product book, featuring more than 3,500 FireWire-equipped PCs, hard drives, camcorders, HDTVs and other equipment and systems available now.
