:: 1394 IN IMAGING AND MACHINE VISION - OVERVIEW |
|||
FireWire's dominance in the field of imaging and machine vision is a natural outgrowth of its early use as the connector of choice between camcorders and computers. Today, industrial cameras equipped with 1394b predominate in the market for a variety of reasons. Our library contains several articles addressing this issue. In preparation for VISION 2008, we look more closely at FireWire's use in imaging, and explore some of the companies working with these exciting applications. We also encourage an in-depth look at the latest digital imaging standard, released only weeks ago by the 1394 Trade Association. IIDC V 1.32 provides more efficient use of bandwidth and simplifies camera implementation for many imaging architectures. |

:: EXCITING APPLICATIONS
You saw it everyday on TV, introducing retransmissions of Athens 2004 Olympic Events… Unibrain's Fire-i™ Software was used inside. Unibrain provided its Fire-i™ software and the FireWire networking hardware to Movia company to ensure simultaneous live acquisition from an unlimited number of FireWire Digital cameras. To achieve the desired effect of freezing time while the camera still moves
around the subject, Movia technicians use multiple cameras that surround
the subject and record at the same time from all angles... :: IMAGING AND MACHINE VISION LIBRARY

Instrumentation & Industrial Digital Camera - A data format used by industrial cameras and machine vision systems sending data over FireWire
FireWire 800
Also known as 1394b, FireWire 800 is the latest implementation of the FireWire standard. It includes throughput of up to 800 Mbps and like its predecessor, can now be run over long distances over Cat5 and POF. It's ideal for machine vision because of its guaranteed QoS and throughput.
